Extending or Widening Existing Concrete
Common Sardis projects include a driveway widening strip, a parking pad beside the garage, a patio extension to fit a larger table and a walk connecting a back door to the drive. Before adding on, we check that the existing slab is level and sound; there is little point attaching new concrete to a section that is already sinking.
Tying New Concrete Into Old
To keep the new section from separating or settling unevenly, we drill and epoxy steel dowels into the edge of the existing slab, place an isolation or construction joint as appropriate and compact the base to the same standard. Grades are set so water flows away from both the house and the joint.
What to Expect From Color Matching
New concrete is lighter than concrete that has weathered for years, and even the same mix will look different at first. The difference softens over time. For a more uniform look, options include cleaning and sealing the old slab, applying a stain over both, or designing the extension with a deliberate border or different finish so the change looks intentional.
Retaining Walls for Sardis Properties
Where a yard slopes toward the house or a patio needs a level pad, a retaining wall does the work. We build segmental block or stone walls with a compacted base, drainage aggregate and a perforated pipe behind them. For stone veneer and outdoor kitchen masonry, see our Sardis masonry services.
Keeping Decorative Concrete Looking Fresh
Rinse and sweep regularly, clean spills promptly and reseal stamped or colored concrete every few years. Keep downspouts and sprinklers pointed away from slabs. More general guidance is in our Mississippi concrete and hardscaping guide.
Common Questions
Can new concrete match my existing surface?
It will be close in texture, but color usually differs at first and blends over time. Staining both or adding a deliberate border can create a uniform look.
How long does a typical project take?
Most extensions and patios are formed and poured within a few days, plus curing time before heavy use.
Do you build retaining walls?
Yes. We build block and stone retaining walls with proper drainage behind them.
What maintenance does decorative concrete require?
Regular cleaning and resealing every few years to protect color and resist stains.
