Types of Units We Install
- Under-counter refrigerators for food, condiments and prep items
- Beverage centers with glass doors and shelving sized for cans and bottles
- Dual-zone wine coolers that hold reds and whites at different temperatures
- Ice makers and kegerators for those who entertain often
- Refrigerated drawers that keep ingredients right next to the grill
Why Outdoor-Rated Matters Here
An indoor fridge moved outside works far too hard in 90-degree heat and high humidity, and its controls and finish are not made for moisture. Outdoor-rated units are built with stronger compressors, sealed electronics and corrosion-resistant stainless steel. Even so, placement matters. We keep units out of direct afternoon sun when possible, give them the ventilation clearance the manufacturer specifies and avoid putting them right beside the grill’s heat.
How We Install It
Most outdoor refrigeration is front-venting so it can sit flush inside an island. Installation typically includes:
- Planning the cutout in the island or outdoor kitchen cabinets
- Running a dedicated GFCI-protected circuit rated for outdoor use
- Setting the unit level on a solid base with proper airflow
- Sealing around the opening to keep out water and pests
Adding a unit to an existing island usually takes one to two days.
Keeping Units Running
Clean the front grille and condenser area a few times a year, since pollen and dust clog airflow fast in spring. Wipe the gaskets so doors seal tightly. In a hard freeze, follow the manufacturer’s winter guidance, which may mean unplugging and propping the door open. Pairing refrigeration with an outdoor sink and a well-planned kitchen island or bar completes the working kitchen.
Common Questions
Are outdoor refrigerators energy efficient?
Modern outdoor-rated units are designed to run efficiently in heat, especially when they have shade and proper ventilation. An indoor fridge used outside will use far more power and wear out quickly.
Can you add a refrigerator to my existing outdoor kitchen?
Usually, yes. We can cut an opening in many islands or rebuild a cabinet section, then bring in a dedicated outdoor-rated circuit.
Should the fridge be under a roof?
It is not required for outdoor-rated units, but shade and cover reduce the workload on the compressor and protect the finish.
How long does installation take?
Most installations take one to two days, depending on electrical work and any changes to the island or cabinets.
What size unit do I need?
Think about how you entertain. A 24-inch under-counter fridge or beverage center suits most families, while frequent hosts often pair two units or add an ice maker. We help you size it during design.
