A Rule of Thumb for Repair vs. Replacement
As a rough guide, if damage covers less than about a quarter of your exterior, repair is often reasonable. Beyond that, full replacement usually gives better protection and a more consistent appearance. Other factors can tip the balance either way: the age of the siding, whether matching panels exist, and whether we find moisture damage behind the wall.
What a Siding Repair Visit Involves
- Unlock and remove the damaged panels with a zip tool, without disturbing the courses around them.
- Inspect the sheathing and house wrap underneath and fix any tears or soft spots.
- Install new panels and relock them into the courses above and below.
- Replace damaged corner posts, J-channel or trim pieces as needed.
Most small repairs take a day or less.
When Hail or Wind Tips the Balance
When hail or wind damages siding across several walls, insurance often becomes part of the conversation. We document every elevation with photos and measurements and can meet your adjuster. If your siding is discontinued, that matters too, because a patch in a different color may not restore the home to its pre-storm condition. When Replacement Is the Smarter Spend
If repairs keep coming back, the panels are brittle or faded, or water damage is showing up behind the siding, a full siding replacement is usually the better long-term choice. Most full replacements take roughly five to ten working days depending on home size and weather. For material options, see our Oxford siding installation page.
Common Questions
How do I know if my siding needs repair or full replacement?
Look at how widespread the damage is, how old the siding is and whether water has gotten behind it. We will inspect and show you the evidence before recommending either option.
Which materials are best for replacement in Oxford?
Quality vinyl and James Hardie fiber cement are the most common choices. Both hold up well in North Mississippi heat and humidity.
Can you help with storm damage insurance claims?
Yes. We document damage, provide a repair scope and can attend the adjuster's inspection. The coverage decision is made by your insurer.
Can a repair be done quickly if a storm left my wall open?
We can secure loose panels or cover exposed areas as a temporary measure while you wait for the claim and permanent materials. That keeps rain from soaking the sheathing in the meantime.
What warranty comes with a repair?
Workmanship and any manufacturer coverage are explained in writing before work begins.
