Fiber Cement vs. Vinyl in Taylor
Fiber cement siding, such as James Hardie products, looks like painted wood, resists rot, insects and fire, and handles humidity well. It is heavier and costs more to install. Vinyl costs less, needs little care and comes in many colors, but can warp near grills or reflective windows and looks less like real wood up close. For homes with classic trim and porch details, many owners prefer fiber cement. Compare them on our fiber cement siding and vinyl siding installation pages.
Matching Existing Siding and Trim
Repairs on one wall raise the question of color match. Fiber cement can be painted to match nearly any color. Vinyl is harder: discontinued colors and sun fading mean a perfect match is not always possible. In that case we sometimes move existing panels from a hidden wall to the repair area and put new panels where they are less visible.
Porches and Southern Details
Porches are part of the appeal here, and they take a lot of weather. We repair and replace porch ceilings, columns, railings and floors, and build new covered porches that tie into the main roof properly. See our covered porch additions page for ideas.
Signs of Storm Damage
After hail or wind, look for cracked or dented siding, chipped paint on fiber cement, shingle pieces in the yard and dents on gutters. We inspect and provide documentation if you decide to file a claim.
Common Questions
Is fiber cement really worth the extra cost over vinyl?
For many Taylor homes, yes, because it holds up to humidity, looks like painted wood and can be repainted later. Vinyl is a sound choice if budget and low maintenance come first. We price both so you can decide.
How do I know if I have storm damage?
Dents in gutters and downspouts, granules in the gutters, cracked siding and missing shingles are common clues. A free inspection will confirm it.
How messy is a siding project?
There is debris during tear-off, but we use tarps, clean up every day and sweep for nails before we leave.
Can you match my existing siding color?
Paintable fiber cement is easy to match. Older vinyl is harder, and we will tell you honestly what match to expect before starting.
