How a Low-Voltage LED System Works
Most landscape lighting runs on a transformer that steps household power down to a safer low voltage. Direct-burial cable runs to each fixture, so trenches are shallow and fixtures can be moved as plants grow. LED lamps use a fraction of the energy of older bulbs and last far longer, which means fewer ladder trips. We size the transformer and cable so the last light on a run is as bright as the first.
Safety, Security and Atmosphere
Lighting is one of the simplest ways to reduce trips on steps and to remove the shadows people use to approach a house. Motion-activated fixtures near entries add another layer. At the same time, warm, well-aimed light makes a backyard feel like a room. We aim fixtures to avoid glare into windows and neighbors' yards.
Smart Controls and Installation
Timers, photocells and app-based controls let lights turn on at dusk and change scenes for parties. Installation usually begins with a nighttime walk or mock-up, followed by setting fixtures and burying cable with minimal disturbance to beds and turf. Many projects take only a few days. Lighting for cooking areas is covered on our outdoor kitchen lighting page.
Common Questions
What kinds of outdoor lighting do you install?
We install path and step lights, uplights, patio and pergola lighting, deck lights, and security or flood lights. Most homes benefit from a mix designed as one system.
Are your lighting systems energy-efficient?
Yes. We use LED fixtures, which draw much less power than incandescent or halogen bulbs and last much longer. Timers and photocells keep lights from running all day.
Does outdoor lighting help with home security?
Lighting entries, drives and side yards removes hiding spots and makes activity visible. Motion-activated fixtures can add an alert effect. It works best alongside locks and other security measures.
Can I control the lights with my phone?
Many transformers and smart switches support app control, schedules and scenes. We can recommend options that fit your existing smart home setup.
Will installation tear up my lawn and flower beds?
Low-voltage cable only needs a shallow slit trench, so disturbance is minimal and turf usually recovers quickly. We work around established plants and clean up as we go. Fixtures can be shifted later as the landscape grows.
