The county's red clay soils drain slowly and erode easily on slopes. Water dumped at the base of a downspout can wash out beds, stain foundations and pool against slabs. Seamless gutters with well-placed downspouts and extensions, and in some cases French drains, move runoff where it belongs. On hillside lots, we also look at how patios, walkways and retaining walls direct water so a new hardscape project does not create a new drainage problem.

What is the best low-maintenance siding?
Fiber cement and insulated vinyl both require little upkeep. Fiber cement may need repainting after many years, while vinyl needs only occasional washing.
