What We Build
- Retaining walls to level yards and hold back slopes, covered in depth on our retaining wall construction page.
- Paver, flagstone and concrete patios and patio extensions.
- Walkways, garden paths and outdoor stairs.
- Seat walls, planters, edging and garden terraces.
- Fire pit surrounds and bases for outdoor kitchens.
- Driveways, borders and aprons.
Choosing Materials for Retaining Walls
For most residential walls we recommend segmental retaining wall block: it interlocks, comes in many colors, and can be engineered for substantial heights with geogrid reinforcement. Natural stone suits lower, informal walls and gives a timeless look. Poured or block walls with stone veneer work where a formal appearance or tight footprint is needed. Treated timber is the least expensive but has the shortest life in our wet climate, so we rarely suggest it for structural walls.
Hardscape as a Drainage Tool
North Mississippi's clay soil and heavy rains make runoff a real issue on sloped lots. Well-planned hardscape can redirect water instead of trapping it: terraced walls slow erosion, channel drains catch sheet flow at the edge of a patio, and permeable pavers let rain soak in. Every wall we build has drainage aggregate and a footing drain, because water pressure behind a wall is the leading reason walls lean or fail. When groundwater is the core issue, a French drain may be part of the plan.
How a Hardscape Project Runs
- On-site consultation to understand goals, grades and access.
- Design and material selection, with a written estimate.
- Utility locating, excavation and base preparation.
- Construction of walls, then surfaces, then finishing details.
- Cleanup, joint sanding, and a walkthrough of care.
Repairs to Existing Hardscape
We also fix sunken pavers, heaved walkways, failing timber walls and loose caps. The first step is always finding the cause, usually drainage or a thin base, so the repair does not fail the same way twice.
Common Questions
What do your hardscaping services include?
Design, excavation, base preparation, construction and cleanup for walls, patios, walkways, steps and stone features. We can handle a single wall or a full backyard plan in phases.
How long do hardscape installations last?
Properly built stone and paver hardscape commonly lasts for decades. Longevity depends mostly on base preparation and drainage, which is where we focus.
Can hardscaping fix erosion on my slope?
Often, yes. Terraced retaining walls, drains and planted beds work together to hold soil and slow water down.
Do you repair hardscape someone else built?
Yes. We evaluate what failed and why, then recommend a repair or rebuild that addresses the cause.
