Why the Ground Under the Slab Matters Most
Much of North Mississippi sits on clay that swells when soaked and shrinks in dry spells. Pour concrete straight onto that and the slab rides every seasonal change until it cracks. Before we form anything, we:
- Strip topsoil and organic material down to stable ground
- Add and compact a crushed-stone base in lifts rather than all at once
- Grade so water sheds away from the house and off the slab edges
- Plan control joints so the inevitable shrinkage cracks happen in straight, intended lines
That prep is the least visible part of the job and the part that decides how long the surface lasts.
Driveway Options From Simple to Showpiece
A broom-finished slab is still the workhorse for daily traffic, but it is not the only choice. We also pour stamped and colored concrete, exposed aggregate and borders that frame the drive in a contrasting finish. For homeowners who want a fully decorative look, we can talk through pavers as well. Full driveway replacement includes breaking out and hauling off the old slab, fixing the base and repouring with reinforcement sized to the vehicles that will use it.
Patios, Walkways and Backyard Hardscapes
The same discipline carries into the backyard. A concrete or paver patio, a walkway from the driveway to the front steps, a low seating wall or a set of outdoor stairs on a sloped lot all need a solid base and good drainage. We look at how you will actually use the space, where water collects after a heavy rain and how the new surface ties into existing doors and grades. What a Typical Project Week Looks Like
Most Senatobia projects take about five to seven days, depending on size and weather. A common sequence:
- Site visit, measurements and a written estimate
- Demolition and excavation
- Base installation, compaction and forming
- Pour, finishing and joint cutting
- Curing time before foot and vehicle traffic
Rain can push a pour back a day or two. We would rather wait than finish concrete in a downpour. Homeowners elsewhere in the county can find our full list of Tate County exterior services.
Common Questions
Can I pick a color or texture for my new concrete?
Yes. Integral color, stains, stamped patterns and exposed aggregate are all options, and we can combine them, such as a plain center field with a stamped border. We bring samples to the estimate so you can compare them in your own light.
Do you tear out and replace an entire existing driveway?
We do. Full replacement includes demolition, hauling the old concrete away, correcting the base and grading, then pouring a new reinforced slab. If only one section is failing, we will tell you whether a partial replacement makes sense.
How soon can I drive on a new driveway?
Foot traffic is usually fine within a day or two. We generally recommend waiting about a week before parking passenger vehicles on fresh concrete and longer for heavy trucks, and we will give you specific guidance for your pour.
Is the consultation free?
Yes. We visit the property, look at drainage and access, discuss finishes and provide a written estimate at no cost. You can start by calling (662) 222-4277 or using our quote form.
