Where Walls Lose Comfort
- Air leaks at sill plates, around windows and at penetrations
- Heat moving through studs, which conduct heat faster than insulation
- Gaps in old sheathing or missing house wrap
- Sun-baked west and south walls that radiate heat indoors in the evening
Siding Options That Help
Insulated vinyl siding adds a contoured foam backer that covers the studs and provides a modest insulating layer, along with stiffer, straighter panels. Fiber cement does not add insulation itself, but installed over a sealed barrier it creates a tight, durable wall. On any re-side, the biggest comfort gain usually comes from properly installed and taped house wrap that stops air from moving through the wall.
Windows, Trim and Flashing
Window openings are the leakiest part of most walls. During a siding project we:
- Inspect each window frame and sill for rot
- Install or repair flashing tape and sill pans
- Seal gaps between the frame and the rough opening
- Install new trim and caulk joints
If windows themselves are failing, this is the ideal time to replace them. Read about energy-efficient windows for Mississippi homes.
Newer Homes vs. Older Homes
Newer houses in Tate County subdivisions usually have house wrap already, but it is often torn, poorly taped or missing around windows, and builder-grade siding may be thin. Older homes in town may have no wrap at all, board sheathing with gaps and windows set without any flashing. Either way, a re-side is the one moment when the wall is open and these problems can be corrected for good.
Looking at the Whole House
Walls are one piece of the comfort puzzle. Attic insulation and ventilation, duct leaks and windows often have an even bigger impact. We will point out what we see during the inspection so you can prioritize improvements that make the most difference for your home.
Installation and Timeline
Siding installation typically takes three to seven days depending on the size of your home. Your proposal names each product and explains manufacturer and workmanship warranties in writing. See our Senatobia siding installation page or explore Tate County exterior services.
Common Questions
Will insulated siding lower my power bill?
It can help, especially on sunny walls, but results depend on the home. Air sealing, attic insulation and windows often have a larger effect, so we look at the whole house.
Is house wrap really that important?
Yes. Properly installed house wrap blocks air movement and sends water back out, both of which matter for comfort and durability.
Can you add insulation to my walls during re-siding?
Insulated siding or rigid foam can add a layer over the sheathing. Filling wall cavities is a separate job that we can discuss if your walls are uninsulated.
