Insert or Full-Frame? How We Decide
An insert slides a new window into the existing frame. It saves time and preserves interior trim and plaster, but it only works when the old frame is square, solid and dry. A full-frame window replacement takes everything out to the studs, which lets us inspect the framing, install fresh flashing and insulate the cavity around the unit. We probe each frame during the estimate and show you what we find before recommending either method.
It's common for one house to need both: inserts on protected sides where frames are sound, and full-frame work on the walls that take the worst weather. Mixing methods keeps costs reasonable without leaving hidden damage behind.
Dealing With Rot at the Sill
Sills take the brunt of rain and condensation, so they are usually the first place wood fails. Soft spots, peeling paint that keeps coming back and dark stains on interior drywall below the window are all clues. When we find rotted window sills, we cut out damaged wood, replace framing as needed, and add a sloped sill pan so any water that gets past the window drains outside instead of into the wall.
Door Installation Done Properly
Exterior doors fail at the bottom first: the threshold, the lower jambs and the subfloor beneath. We replace doors as a pre-hung system, check the floor below for moisture damage, and set the new threshold on a proper pan. Shimming at the hinges and strike keeps the door swinging true, and new weatherstripping seals the perimeter. Fiberglass and steel entry doors, as well as sliding and hinged patio doors, are all available.

Common Questions
How long does a typical window or door installation take?
Install time depends mostly on method. Inserts go quickly, often a whole house in a day or two, while full-frame replacements and openings needing rot repair take longer.
What materials do you install?
We install vinyl, fiberglass and wood-clad windows, along with fiberglass, steel and wood entry doors and several styles of patio door.
Do you offer energy-efficient options?
Yes. Insulated glass with low-E coatings is standard on most products we install, and we can recommend lower solar-gain glass for sun-facing walls.
Will removing old frames damage my siding?
Full-frame removal can disturb the siding and trim right around the opening. We cut and replace those pieces carefully and seal everything so the exterior looks finished when we leave.
