Repairs We See Most Often
- Brick steps and stoops with loose or cracked units.
- Porch piers and foundation walls with eroded joints.
- Garden and seat walls leaning from water pressure behind them.
- Brick or stone walkways that have settled and become trip hazards.
- Mailbox and entry columns damaged by vehicles or weather.
Repointing vs. Rebuilding
When the brick is sound but the mortar joints are crumbling, repointing is usually the answer: we rake out the damaged mortar to a consistent depth and pack in new mortar matched in strength and color. When bricks themselves are cracked, loose or the structure has moved, part of it may need to be taken down and rebuilt on a sound base. Repairing the cause, such as poor drainage, keeps the problem from returning.
Adding a Backsplash or Stone Feature
Many homeowners combine repairs with something new. An outdoor backsplash behind a grill, a stone firepit or a veneered island can often be built in the same visit. Backsplashes usually take a few days, while larger features run one to two weeks. For decks and complete outdoor spaces, see our Water Valley decks and outdoor living page.
Working With a Crew From Just Up the Road
Being close by makes it practical to inspect, return for small repairs and check on curing work between visits. We provide photos of what we find, explain options in plain language and put warranties in writing. For other projects around the county, visit our Yalobusha County page.
Common Questions
Can you repair old brick steps without replacing them entirely?
Often, yes. If the base is solid, we reset loose bricks, replace cracked ones and repoint the joints. If the steps have settled, we rebuild them on a proper base.
What materials do you use for outdoor backsplashes?
Exterior porcelain, natural stone, brick and stone veneer. We help you choose one that complements your home and existing masonry.
How long does a masonry repair take?
Small repairs and repointing can take a day or two. Rebuilds and new features such as firepits generally take one to two weeks.
How do I care for my stonework after a repair?
Keep water draining away from it, clean with mild detergent rather than harsh acids, and watch the joints each year for new cracks.
