Last year, a family living just off Highway 17 in Vaughan reached out to us. They had a standard concrete concrete pad that was cracking due to shifting clay soil, and the lack of shade made it completely unusable during the summer months. They wanted an outdoor oasis where they could host family gatherings, grill, and relax without roasting in the afternoon sun.

The Plan

Our design team mapped out a multi-tiered backyard plan:

1. Tier 1: A stained, stamped concrete patio extension featuring a built-in outdoor kitchen with a dark stone countertop.

2. Tier 2: A covered cedar pavilion structure built directly over the primary seating area to block out the harsh UV rays.

3. Tier 3: Integrated low-voltage LED lighting so the space could be utilized safely long after the sun went down.

The Execution

Our local crews got to work, dealing directly with the unique challenges of the local soil. We dug deep footings and reinforced the concrete base with heavy-duty rebar to prevent future shifting. Our carpenters hand-selected the cedar timbers to ensure structural beauty.

The result? The family transformed a hot, cracked concrete slab into a breath-taking private resort. They now spend their weekends hosting neighborhood barbecues and enjoying quiet Mississippi evenings outside.
