Composite or Treated Wood?
Composite decking costs more up front but resists rot, insects and splintering and never needs staining. Some darker colors run warm in direct sun, so lighter shades or a pergola above help. Pressure-treated pine is affordable and strong, and it can be stained any color, but it needs cleaning and sealing every couple of years in our humidity. Framing on both is typically treated lumber, so a solid substructure matters either way.
Fitting the Deck to a Bigger Lot
More space means more choices, and more ways to get proportions wrong. We look at how the deck connects to the kitchen or living room, where the sun falls in late afternoon, how the ground slopes and what you want to see from your seat. Larger properties often benefit from two connected levels: one for dining near the house, one lower for lounging, joined by wide steps. A pergola over the dining level adds shade without blocking the view.
Weather-Ready Construction
Central Mississippi brings heavy rain, humidity and strong spring storms. We use footings set in firm soil, coated or stainless fasteners, proper ledger flashing where the deck meets the house and spacing that lets boards drain and dry. Pergola posts are tied into the deck framing or set on their own footings so they handle wind loads. Our pergola cost guide explains how size and material affect price.

Common Questions
How long does a custom deck or pergola take in Sharon?
A typical deck takes a couple of weeks of on-site work, and adding a pergola extends that by a few days. Larger, multi-level designs take longer. Weather is the most common variable.
Which deck material handles Sharon's weather best?
Composite boards hold up to humidity and sun with almost no maintenance. Treated pine also performs well if it is cleaned and sealed regularly. We will show you samples of both.
Are decks and pergolas low maintenance?
Composite decks and aluminum pergolas are close to maintenance-free beyond washing. Wood versions need periodic sealing or staining to stay looking good.
