A Pre-Season Roof Checklist
Late spring is a smart time for a pre-season roof inspection. We look at:
- Loose, lifted or missing shingles and ridge caps
- Cracked pipe boots and worn sealant at flashing
- Gutters and downspouts that need clearing or refastening
- Limbs over the roof that could break loose
- Attic signs of past leaks
Fixing small items now reduces the chance a storm turns them into big ones, and gives you dated photos of the roof's condition before any damage.
After the Storm: Documentation That Helps
Wind damage to a roof is often handled differently from flood damage, so it helps to know your policy. Once it is safe, we inspect the roof and gutters, photograph damage from multiple angles and write up the findings. You can share that report with your adjuster, and we can meet the adjuster on site if you prefer. Our guide on filing a storm damage insurance claim explains the steps. Coverage decisions belong to your insurer, but clear records keep the process moving.
Replacing a Roof With Storms in Mind
If you are replacing a roof, ask about features that improve wind resistance: enhanced nailing, sealed deck seams, upgraded underlayment and high-wind ridge caps. Some insurers recognize certain roof upgrades with premium discounts, so ask your agent which features they credit before you choose. We install architectural shingles and metal roofing and can price options side by side.
Help Beyond the Roof
Storms rarely stop at the shingles. We also repair gutters, siding and soffit that take a hit. For new roofs and commercial properties, see our Gulfport roof installation and Gulfport commercial roofing pages.
Common Questions
Should I have my roof inspected before hurricane season?
Yes. A pre-season inspection catches loose shingles, worn flashing and clogged gutters while they are easy to fix, and it creates a dated record of your roof's condition.
Will you meet with my insurance adjuster?
We can. We share our photos and notes and point out the damage we found. The adjuster and your insurance company make the coverage decision.
Can you tell whether my roof should be repaired or replaced?
Yes. We base the recommendation on the extent of damage, the roof's age and the condition of the deck, and we explain the reasoning with photos.
Is Tekton Exteriors licensed and insured?
Yes. We are a licensed and insured exterior contractor in Mississippi.
