Wood that stays damp invites rot and termites. Composite decking and PVC trim do not absorb water and offer nothing for insects to eat. Where wood framing is used, ground-contact treated lumber, raised post bases and good airflow under the deck keep it dry. For pergolas, aluminum framing removes the problem entirely.
