Before Day One
After you approve an estimate, we order materials and confirm a start date. Lead times vary: shingles and vinyl are often quick, while special-order colors, fiber cement and custom windows can take longer. We watch the forecast in the days before a start and will move the date rather than open a roof ahead of a storm.
A Typical Roof Replacement
- Day one: tarps over landscaping, tear-off, decking inspection and any plywood replacement
- Underlayment, drip edge and flashing go down the same day so the house is dried in
- Day two or three: shingles, ridge vents and pipe boots, then cleanup and a magnetic nail sweep
Most homes are finished in one to three days. Our Byram roofing services page has more on materials.
Siding and Windows Take Longer
Siding and window installations usually run several days, sometimes more on larger homes. The crew removes old siding a wall at a time, repairs sheathing, installs house wrap and flashing, then the new siding and trim. Windows are typically swapped one opening at a time so the house is never left exposed overnight. For gutter and siding options, see our Byram siding and gutter guard page.
What Can Shift the Schedule
- Rain, which pauses roof tear-offs and some sealant work
- Hidden rot that needs repair before new materials go on
- Late material deliveries or special-order items
- Change requests once work has started
When anything changes, we tell you what happened and the new plan.
Living at Home During the Work
You can stay home through every project we do. Expect noise during working hours, keep pets and vehicles clear of the work zone, and move wall hangings on exterior walls during roof tear-off, since vibration can knock them loose.
Common Questions
What exterior services do you provide in Byram?
Roofing repair and replacement, siding, trim, soffit and fascia, seamless gutters, windows and doors, plus storm damage documentation for insurance claims.
Do I need to be home while you work?
Not necessarily. We need access to the exterior and, for roofing, a quick look in the attic. Many homeowners go to work as usual and check in at the end of the day.
What happens if it rains mid-project?
Roofs are dried in with underlayment before we leave each day, and siding is installed over house wrap. We pause exposed work when rain is coming and pick back up when it clears.
